Getting Control Of Long Grass
Posted by tom under: Homes And Property .
I have lived in several homes over the years and every time I have moved to a new one it has always seemed that the previous owners had let the grass grow in the garden. You move in to your nice new home and it is made to look untidy by the overgrown garden.
First thought on seeing such a mess are to rip up the whole lot and have a nice new lawn laid but this can be expensive and it takes time for a new lawn to get established. Fortunately grass is a eager little plant and given a bit of assistance it will help you to develop a great lawn in a surprisingly short period of time.
First you should go over the lawn and trim it to a more manageable level. Set the mower blades to their highest setting and just go over the grass don’t worry too much about any bits that manage to escape the lawnmower blades, we can catch them later. Just go over the whole patch of grass and trim it down a little.
Next you should clear any cut grass to avoid the mower chocking on clumps of cut grass when you cut it all again. Now set your mower blades a bit lower and go over the grass once more. This time it should start to look a bit tidier as we are getting the length of grass to a more sensible height.
Finally go over the grass one more time. Leave the lawnmower blades set a little higher than you normally would as the grass needs to recover after being so long. Give it a few days and you can cut it to the height you eventually plan to keep the grass and you are well on your way to making a fine looking lawn.
