Gardening - A Great Hobby For The Disabled

Posted by tom under: Hobbies-Crafts; Property .

The most popular hobby in the world is said to be gardening. This shouldn’t be a great surprise. It is an activity that can be enjoyed by anyone. It may not be glamorous like scuba diving, or exciting like hot air ballooning nor as profitable as aromatherapy candle making but gardening is satisfying and it can be carried out by people of all abilities.

Physical fitness is not important in gardening. Yes, it can help, of course, but it is not essential. You just have to adapt your garden and your gardening to your abilities. Most people are able to garden and a disability should not be seen as preventing you from doing so.

If you cannot bend easily then get some raised beds installed so you can grow flowers and cultivate your vegetables in your garden without bending. If you are unable to dig then use the no-dig system of gardening. Feed the soil with organic matter and let the worms do the work for you. Worms are tireless workers and will toil away, improving your soil without the need for you to dig the soil.

It may be that you have difficulty leaving your house or you have no garden. You can still have some plants in pots and look after them. Some people become quite attached to their pot plants and many people talk to their plants. There are a lot of people who will argue that talking to plants makes the plant grow stronger.

Do not be disuaded from growing plants because you suffer a disability. Growing plants can be very theraputic and rewarding and I believe everybody should give gardening a try. Using raised garden beds can enable most people to enjoy gardening.
