Change Your Motor Oil

Posted by tom under: Cars .

I find it so annoying that people, usually men, persist with the myth that women never remember to change the motor oil in the car. Granted, it has been a long time since I have had my oil changed, but it is not because I have forgotten, it is because my husband always does it after I remind him. I guess it would only be fair for me to do it once in a while, but because he uses our single car most of the time, it only makes sense that he is the one that takes it in to be changed.

Usually we are told to change the motor oil at frequencies that vary according to the manufacturer but every 3000 miles is fairly common in our vehicles. This is probably a good idea, but we usually go about 4000 before we do so. I have a car that is over ten years old, and it is still in amazing condition. So for us, that 4000 mile mark has worked out just fine. If it gets much over that though, I do begin to worry, and I remind my husband that it is time to take it in to get the motor oil changed. Thankfully, it only takes about fifteen minutes and is not too far out of our way.

There are lots of places where you can take your vehicle and they will change your motor oil for you pretty quickly. We always do this, as we really don?t have a way, or the will for that matter, to do it ourselves. This is always fast, and the cost is not too bad. They also top off other fluids in the car, and even replace some of the filters at no extra charge. Though many do this, if you don?t get these services when you go in to change your motor oil, you may want to find someone to do it. It?s definitely worth spending a few more dollars to have that done. It?s less you have to think about when considering the upkeep of your car?s engine.

There is no reason why you should not change your own motor oil though you will be one of a dying breed. People who are car enthusiasts and that includes many women who know a lot about cars do save some money by doing it themselves. You can buy your motor oil in bulk, and save even more money. You also get to choose the type of oil you would like in your car, if you have a preference. Most folks are not too concerned but those who know cars may like one brand over another. When you do your own oil changes the choice is entirely up to you.
